This is a fast reading, but very informative guide to starting your own small business. It will be particularly useful for those without prior management or organizational business experience. The initial 33 pages give concise but valuable overviews of developing business plans, financing, business strategies. Perhaps the most eye-opening pages cover the hidden pitfalls and necessary but unexpected precautions having to do with franchises and selling/marketing companies. Check lists of legal, accounting, and insurance questions to ask are provided. Good references to websites, business organizations, trade groups, etc. are given.
The remainder of the book discusses a large number of small businesses than can be set up, with specifics regarding estimated cost and time involved, and profit expectations.
The author clearly has had a lot of practical business experience, and presents it well to the reader. Overall, I would recommend this guide as a reference to anyone thinking of starting their own small business--retirees, or in fact, at any age.
